Symptoms
There are many symptoms that are associated with progeria, many of which are labeled in the cartoon to the left. These symptoms include
- baldness
- swollen veins
- absence of eyebrows and eyelashes
- a beak-shaped nose
- a shrunken chin
- premature cardiac disease
- a narrow chest
- swollen and stiff joints
- age spots
- narrowing of coronary arteries
- slowed growth rate
- shorter than the average child their age
- lighter than the average child their age
Though their bodies are different from a normal child's, their intelligence levels are exactly the same. This means that a normal 3-year-old and a 3-year-old with progeria would act similarly.
Unfortunately, an additional symptom of progeria is an early death averaging at 13 years.
